The act of quilting has always been about more than just stitching fabric together. It’s a deeply personal and creative process, often symbolizing love, comfort, and warmth. Within this tradition, the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) has emerged as a powerful force, using the art of quilting to honor and comfort those who have served in the United States military.
A Quilt of Valor® is an award presented to Service Members and Veterans who have been touched by war. It serves as a tangible expression of gratitude, saying, “thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”
Quilts of Valor reflect the highest standards of workmanship and the use of quality materials, aligning with the Foundation’s core value of promoting excellence.
In 2023, the Tar River Piecemakers Quilt Guild initiated an annual recognition of veterans who served in the U.S. Military. On November 11, 2023, seventeen veterans from all branches of the military were honored.
This year, members of the Guild are busy creating quilts and identifying potential nominees for recognition at the upcoming ceremony on November 9, 2024. The event will be held at the Imperial Centre for The Arts & Sciences, Education Building, 344 Falls Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The social gathering will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the ceremony and meeting at 9:30 a.m. The Public is welcome.
