Quilt Restoration and Repair with Cathy Smith
At our April meeting, Cathy Smith will be sharing her expertise on the restoration and repair of damaged or antique quilts. Cathy’s sewing journey began in 7th grade when she took Home Economics. She initially sewed clothes for herself, and later for her growing family. In 1980, she made her first quilt, followed by her first t-shirt quilt in 1999.
In 2006, Cathy and her family relocated to Zebulon, NC, where, after struggling to find a job in her field, she founded The Qwazy Quilter in 2010. Specializing in t-shirt and memory quilts, Cathy also offers longarm quilting services and quilt restoration and repair. You can view examples of her work on Facebook.
Beyond her business, Cathy founded a Quilting Ministry at her church, where she and her sewing group have donated hundreds of quilts, pillowcases, and comfort bags to those in need both locally and internationally. She is also a long-time member of the Undercovers Quilting Bee in Zebulon.
Many of us have treasured quilts that may need repair, and we’re excited to learn from Cathy about the restoration process.
