Through our long time member Paula Loges, we have established a connection with an organization that is providing relief to people in NC that were affected by Hurricane Helene. This ministry is called Comfort Bags for Kids and was originally founded by DeVonna Drey to provide comfort bags to children in crisis. This is how DeVonna describes how her ministry began offering quilts and blankets to families:
“Quilts for the Mamas, just kind of happened as people were bringing me beautiful quilts and large blankets that were too big to put in the children’s Comfort Bags but I couldn’t turn them away because I knew that these families had lost their blankets…and everything else they had. So when we give a Comfort Bag to a child we love to offer a handmade quilt or a warm blanket to the mothers. This has been so very well received. Especially the quilts, it brings tears to their eyes.”
Comfort Bags for Kids is now working to obtain new and gently used blankets and quilts for families in Western NC. Our Cutting Corners Bee has already made a donation to this organization.
If you would like to donate a new or gently used quilt or blanket, here are your options:
– bring it to Duane Carpentier’s house December 11-13, 1-6 p.m. His address is 3508 Winstead Rd, Rocky Mount, NC. Please text first, (515) 571-9229;
– bring it to our guild meeting on Dec. 14;
– order a new blanket and have it shipped to:
